ICON handloom cluster

Few weeks ago I contacted Manuprasad Mathew, a designer from India, and he introduced to me the ICON project

The Government of India, to develop and valorize handloom cluster in an inclusive, sustainable and self-reliant manner, sponsors this project that is located in Kannur, a city in the Northern part of Kerala.
Their main production is based on house wear, like sofa covers, curtains and cushion. However, they do involve fashion designer, and Mathew is one of them, to develop shirt and new textile pattern.

ICON produces eco friendly dyes with height level of fastness properties and rich weaving traditions, and at the same time the income of the production is use to give a contribution for developing the rural economy of the area.
In the end this project is valuable for both the environments and the society of Kannur.
